Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a Director, Sales in our Saskatoon office.



Reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, the Director, Sales is responsible for the management and success of the sales functions for both our group and individual business. The primary focus is to lead the strategy and direction for the area to ensure sustainable growth and positive financial results are achieved through the development and implementation of sales programs and techniques designed to achieve attraction and retention of life and health business in the market. The individual will oversee the direction and performance and provide leadership, mentorship and expertise to the team of sales and support staff. 



  • Provide effective leadership and strategic direction to the Sales department
  • Provide direction and oversee the development and execution of sales objectives and strategies
  • Drive ongoing innovation for our clients and business
  • Identify and implement strategies, initiatives and techniques that support the attraction and retention of clients, brokers and other business contacts through various distribution channels
  • Manage the sales leadership team, foster and promote teamwork and monitor overall effectiveness of operations
  • Establish sales objectives, targets and performance goals and provide guidance and expertise to support success
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to the team that enables and encourages open-mindedness, bold thinking and new ideas that continually enhance skills and departmental and organizational effectiveness, efficiency and service delivery to both internal and external clients
  • Recommend, support and implement new or modified approaches, policies and procedures to maximize productivity and build long-term, sustainable success
  • Participate in the review, recommendation and design of products, services and marketing strategies
  • Review, recommend and monitor key business performance indicators, departmental metrics and measures to support resource planning, service quality, client retention, and the achievement of financial goals
  • Provide input and direction on the identification, evaluation, management, and communication of key operational risks and the adequacy of internal controls and ensure liability and risks are managed appropriately
  • Establish or enhance functions and practices to support effective client meetings, communication and reporting, business acquisition, RFP responses and finalist presentations
  • Provide sales staff with assistance in renewal negotiations where required
  • Participate in external presentations; represent the organization at major industry and client facing events as necessary
  • Develop a network of key community and business contacts to allow for a strategic approach in business development
  • Provide organizational and strategic support to the Vice-President of Sales & Marketing
  • Lead, manage or participate in technology, product development and other organizational projects and initiatives impacting Sales
  • Advocate, drive and manage change, ensure effective and timely communication to all impacted stakeholders both internal and external to the organization
  • Participate on the company Leadership Team and support the development, planning and implementation of the company’s business plan
  • Oversee departmental human resources functions including resource and succession planning, performance management, recognition, development, and recruitment
  • Ensure supportive and collaborative relationships with various teams across the organization
  • Oversee the department budget; authorize, forecast, monitor and ensure the control of expenditures
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge; remain current with best practices, industry trends and product knowledge through professional networks, research and educational opportunities
  • Some travel is required
  • Other related tasks and duties as assigned



  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 8-10 years of experience including leadership, management and sales preferably in the health or financial sector and/or group insurance industry.  An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. 
  • Proven people management and leadership skills including, mentoring, relationship building, performance management and continuous learning support
  • Strong understanding of effective, efficient and client-centric administrative processes and the management thereof
  • Effective communicator, mentor and coach, with experience leading teams with varying skills and knowledge
  • Strong business acumen, critical thinking and proven analytical and decision-making skills to deal with complex and varying business issues
  • Project management, relationship management, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage change, problem solve, exercise judgment and create innovative solutions
  • High technical aptitude with the ability to understand system and process linkages as it relates to process and service delivery
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point with the ability to easily learn new programs
  • Must have a high level of integrity and accountability while demonstrating flexibility and initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills, with particular proficiency in making effective presentations to decision makers
  • Proven commitment to service excellence and to the promotion of exceptional, proactive and responsive service to both external and internal customers
  • Proven capacity to work well under pressure
  • Commitment to professional development and willingness to participate in industry related training
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license, be willing to travel and work flexible hours
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo a background check
