JOB FUNCTION

Working as part of the application development team under the guidance of the Team Lead, Application Development, and reporting directly to the Director, IS&T, this position is responsible for supporting application systems.  The successful incumbent will contribute to the ongoing improvement of IT services, be committed to quality standards and participate in the team by assisting others, sharing information and contributing to goals.

 

DUTIES & RESPSONSIBILITES

  • Provide support to internal customers and end users, in collaboration with the rest of the development team
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to custom-built PHP and IBM i applications using RPG and DB2 database
  • Create and maintain monthly and ad hoc reports for teams across the business
  • Identify and propose application system improvements
  • Resolve application related issues in the incident queue and document resolution as required
  • Provide work estimates and progress updates in a timely manner
  • Provide after-hours remote system support as required
  • Regular review and assessment of developmental goals, accomplishments and priorities to meet personal, departmental and organizational objectives
  • Perform other related projects and duties as required

 
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Completion of a Post-Secondary diploma in Computer Systems Technology with a focus on Programming, and a minimum of 1 year related experience.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered
  • Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience in:
    • creating complex SQL queries, data analytics, DBMS such as DB2, SQL Server or Oracle
    • analyzing data in Microsoft Access databases, Excel sheets and summarizing data with pivot tables
  • Knowledge of Visual Basic, Zend Studio, PHP, Github, IBM i/RPG programming will be considered assets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and document program requirements
  • Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively with others, as well as independently with minimum supervision
  • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities within established guidelines and time constraints
  • Service focused with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain concepts and technical details to various audiences
