5 At Home Workouts to Try

Feeling bored of your at home workout routine? Keep reading for 5 workout classes to try without leaving the house.

Staying active is an important part of living an overall healthy lifestyle. It’s easy to get tired of completing the same routines week after week, and it can be hard to stay motivated. We have compiled a list of at-home workout classes to try something new!

Barre

Barre is a workout class that combines ballet inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga, and strength training. The class uses a ballet barre and focuses on strengthening your core and toning your glutes using high reps of small range movements. If you want to learn more about Barre, click here.

Barre is a type of workout that is often best completed with an instructor guiding the class. As we can’t currently attend a Barre class in person, consider online alternatives in your area. The Local barre, a Barre studio with locations in both Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, have started to offer an online streaming service: Local Digital. This streaming service is a great way to try a new workout while supporting a local Saskatchewan business.

Yoga

Yoga is one of the easiest types of workouts to complete at home. All you need is a bit of space and a yoga mat! A few benefits of practicing Yoga include: it’s good for reducing stress and feelings of anxiety, increasing strength, improving flexibility and balance, helping to get a better night’s sleep, as well as it helps to reduce inflammation and relieve migraines.

Yoga is also great to do at home, as following along to an instructor lead class can feel as if you are in the studio attending your favourite class. There are tons of great resources online to follow along with. Check out Yoga with Adriene for a wide variety of videos to pick from, for free! If you are interested in learning a bit more about the different types of Yoga classes, check out our blog post from last month (with links to more videos online!).

Pilates

Pilates is another great type of workout to complete at home. Pilates is a type of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Generally, Pilates moves focus on the core, but there are many exercises that target other areas of your body as well. This type of exercise is great if you like to switch up which area of the body you want to work. If you want to learn more about Pilates, read more information here.

Although we might not be able to attend classes with specialized equipment, there are options to complete Pilates classes from home. With options to complete those classes with or without equipment, check out this list of 36 Pilates YouTube Workouts to do at Home to get started.

Zumba

Ever feel like you just need to dance it out? If so, Zumba might be your new favourite workout! Zumba is a workout class that combines Latin and international music with dance moves to work up a sweat. It is a creative alternative way to get in a cardiovascular exercise that is a nice switch up from the treadmill.

If you’ve never tried Zumba before, now might be the perfect time. Check out this beginners routine to get started.

Full-body Fitness Videos

This type of workout class is a bit more general… on purpose. Many of us had a routine that we were used to completing at the gym. Now with working out at home, those routines have most likely changed. Below are a few resources to get you started with building a new routine you can complete at home. Each of the below YouTube channels have many different videos that target different ares of the body and are various lengths of time.
