Coming into the 3rd week of January, we hope the start of your year has brought some new healthy habits. If you are stumped on ideas for self-care activities, we have curated a list of some simple things you can do to take care of your mental and physical health.
Cook your favourite meal. Or try a new recipe! Sometimes taking time to cook yourself a nice meal is a great way to show yourself you care.
Spend a night with friends. Whether you go out or spend a quiet night in, spending time with those who make you happy is a great way to participate in self-care.
Phone a loved one. Instead of sending that text message, pick up the phone and call!
Get a massage. This is a great way to get some quiet ‘you’ time in.
Try a new workout class. Get out of your comfort zone! Try that class that has caught your attention.

Say “no” to things that don’t serve you. If you are feeling busy and overwhelmed, it is okay to say no when friends or family ask you to do something.
Make your bed. Bonus points: Change your sheets! You will love getting into a freshly made bed at the end of a busy day.
Complete that task you have been putting off. That trip to the bank you’ve been avoiding? Check that off your to-do list today.
Watch a movie. A new favourite or an old classic, relaxing with a movie is a fun way to unwind.
Start a journal. Getting your thoughts on paper can help to clear your mind of lingering thoughts.
Plant a seed (or buy a new plant to take of). There’s nothing quite like cooking with fresh basil you grew yourself.
Go to bed early. Instead of letting that next episode play, turn the T.V. off and get a good sleep!
Get outside. Fresh air is a great way to get a change of scenery.
Listen to a podcast. Instead of feeling annoyed at the long drive home, put on a podcast and perhaps learn something new!
Take the time to enjoy breakfast in the morning. Busy schedules don’t always call for this, but if you have the time, slow down and enjoy your breakfast.
Take a bubble bath. Amazing what sitting in warm bubbly water can do for the soul. Add some classic Epsom salts to relax your muscles.
Try a creative hobby: painting, sewing, drawing, adult colouring books, and scrapbooking. Let your mind relax and get lost creating something.
Watch an online tutorial. Is there something you always wished you could do? Search it online! Take the time to learn something new.
Clean up one room in your house. De-cluttering your space can help you to feel at ease in other aspects of your life.
