What are the different kinds of insurance coverage?

Saskatchewan Blue Cross offers three different kinds of insurance, all aimed at ensuring you have the coverage you need, when you need it so you and your family are protected now and in the future.

Health

Health insurance covers a wide variety of health and wellness-related expenses including prescription drugs, dental care, vision care, ambulance and hospital care, paramedical services, medical equipment, and more. Saskatchewan Blue Cross offers both Personal Health Plans, which members purchase for themselves and their families, and Workplace Benefits Plans, which are often offered by employers to their employees or in other group settings like retiree groups and professional associations.

Personal Health Plans protect you and our loved ones from unexpected medical costs. Saskatchewan Blue Cross plans offer core health benefits, then additional coverage can be added to suit your needs and unique situation. We offer three types of Personal Health Plans:

  • Blue Choice and Guaranteed Acceptance are available to anyone in Saskatchewan who needs health insurance.
  • Conversion plans are there for you when you leave an employer’s group benefits plan.

Workplace Benefits Plans are designed for businesses with three or more employees, rather than individuals or families. Two types of plans are offered depending on the number of employees an employer will include in the plan – Blue Essentials for groups of three to 19 employees, and employers with 20 or more employees are provided a Custom Benefits Plan suited to the unique needs of their employees.

Travel

Did you know that your government health plan doesn’t cover the cost of emergency medical care when you travel outside your province of residence? That’s where travel insurance comes in. If you or a loved one fall ill, have an accident or need emergency medical care while on vacation outside of Saskatchewan, travel insurance ensures you get the emergency care you need without worrying about the cost of ambulances, hospital stays, medical supplies and more. It even covers the expense of transportation home if you can’t travel on your own due to your medical condition.

Life

Life insurance provides a one-time tax-free payout to your loved ones when you pass away. It can be used to reduce financial stress following your passing or to secure your loved ones’ financial future.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross’ term life insurance plans provide coverage for a set period – 10, 20 or 25 years. You’ll pay a monthly or annual fee throughout the term and, when the term ends, you’ll choose if renewing your policy, buying a different one, or letting it expire meets your needs.
