Family Changes

Making changes to your insurance is easy

Often a change in family dynamics can be difficult and hard for everyone involved. In an effort to be as helpful as we can be to support you and your family through a transition, we’ve designed our processes to be as easy and seamless as possible. This way you can focus on taking care of your family without having to worry about losing the added protection of health insurance.

Has your family changed? Here’s what you need to know.
  • Families going through divorce

If you are losing coverage because of a divorce, we can help you get a personal health plan that will keep your health covered as you adjust to the change. If you are looking to remove a spouse from a current plan, please let us know in writing. We can move the two of you onto your own policies where you can both keep your same coverage on separate personal health plans. Our customer service representatives can help you decide what’s best for you and your family.

  • Saying goodbye to a loved one

We are very sorry for your loss — having to deal with the paperwork in these situations is never easy. All we ask from you is that you send us a copy of a death certificate or a statement from the funeral director and we can make the necessary adjustments to your plan. If you let us know within 30 or more days prior to policy renewal we can refund any unused premiums.

  • When children become adults

Your children are covered under your policy up to age 18, or up to age 25 if s/he is a full-time student at an accredited educational institution. Once your child reaches age 18 they can remain on your policy until you notify us that:

    1. the child is not a full time student, or
    2. the child is married.

At age 25 your child will automatically be removed from your policy at renewal. Notify us if your child cannot leave your care due to physical or mental disability and they can stay on your policy forever.

    Group/employer plan members

When the time comes to remove your children from your group/employer policy, please contact us directly. We can set them up on a Personal Health Plan of their very own.

    Personal plan holders

When the time comes to remove your children from your policy, please contact us directly. We can help remove them from your Personal Health Plan policy while transferring them into a new policy of their very own. And because they have already been receiving coverage from us through your policy, your children will automatically qualify for the same coverage as your policy with no medical questionnaire.

Don’t worry we’ll contact you to remind you when this is going to happen so there is no lapse in coverage for you or your children.
