Saskatchewan Blue Cross works with health organizations throughout the province that support whole health and wellness.

Saskatoon Heart Safe Program

Saskatchewan Blue Cross has a long-standing partnership with Medavie Health Services West and the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority to deliver The Saskatoon Heart Safe Program, a community program that provides rapid access to automated external defibrillators (AED) in case of sudden cardiac arrest. Businesses and community venues that have onsite AED have reported survival rates as high as 65%, in contrast to the 5% national survival rate for those who do not.

Thanks to the strong community involvement with businesses of all sizes, thousands of employees and patrons are protected every day from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). The Saskatoon Heart Safe program is a leader within North America with the most lives saved per capita.

There are currently over 1300 community AEDs registered with the Saskatoon Heart Safe Program and 43 lives have been saved to date!

Urban Hospital Facilities

Through support to key fundraising campaigns, Saskatchewan Blue Cross helps to raise the profile of important initiatives while contributing critical funding where it’s most needed. Select examples of foundations include:

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH)

Social Media Sponsor of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon, an annual fundraiser that provides lifesaving equipment, connects patients with family-centered care, and enhanced innovative research.

Royal University Hospital

Development and support of The Integrated Wellness Course for Saskatchewan People Living with Epilepsy.

St. Paul’s Hospital

Assist in supporting The Early Screening Program for Chronic Kidney Disease and in providing vital equipment particularly in high-risk communities, to access early detection and education.

Saskatoon City Hospital

The Enchanted Forest Holiday Light Tour which supports and enhances healthcare at Saskatoon City Hospital through the purchase of equipment, resources and technology.

Hospitals of Regina

To help deliver the best care in Regina and southern Saskatchewan, we contribute to:

  • Urgent Care Centre – providing patients with timely, same-day care for urgent, non-life-threatening illnesses, injuries, and mental health and addiction needs
  • Z99 Radiothon in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – helping provide intensive care and support to an average of 500 fragile babies each year

Rural Hospital Facilities

Our support to hospital foundations ensures that residents have access to the care they need, when they need it. This includes helping to fund lifesaving equipment and technology, upgraded facilities, and medical training that improve the quality of patient care.

This funding helped provide much-needed equipment such as a bariatric phlebotomy chair to provide a more inclusive and comfortable patient experience, a mental health bed and safety bed alarms, and a FUJIFILM Sonosite Point of Care Visualization Tool to accurately visualize fine anatomical details at the patient’s bedside, supporting confident, real-time diagnosis and treatment.

Foundations recently supported:

  • Lloydminster Region Health Foundation
  • Moose Jaw Health Foundation
  • The Health Foundation in Yorkton
  • Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation
  • Outlook & District Health Foundation Inc.

Ronald McDonald House

A family with a sick child can experience extremely challenging times, often spending long periods away from home and suffering from the stresses that illness of a loved one
can bring. That’s why Saskatchewan Blue Cross supports Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan (RMHC-SK), which provides safe and comforting spaces for families caring for their sick child.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross has assisted with numerous initiatives including the Adopt-A-Room Program, the Volunteer Program and the “House Party” event (previously the Home for Dinner signature event), which raises much needed funds for facilities in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert.

Make-a-Wish

Blue Cross of Canada supports Make-A-Wish®, which creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Saskatchewan Blue Cross is pleased to work with the local Saskatchewan Make-A-Wish chapter on the Trees of Joy event spreading holiday cheer and supporting Make-A-Wish Canada’s mission to grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses.

STARS Rescue on the Prairie

For over a decade, STARS Air Ambulance has been a vital part of Saskatchewan’s emergency medical response system, delivering critical care to patients in some of the province’s most remote and challenging locations. Since its arrival in 2012, STARS has flown over 10,000 life-saving missions across Saskatchewan.

Operating out of bases in Regina and Saskatoon, STARS responds to an average of three missions per day, ensuring rapid access to specialized care regardless of geography. This service is especially crucial in our province, where long distances and rugged terrain can delay traditional emergency response.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross was honoured to participate in the 2025 STARS Rescue on the Prairie, with our very own Kelly Wilson, President and CEO, being dropped off in a remote location with the goal of raising funds for STARS. She exceeded her goal and raised $65,600 including a contribution by Saskatchewan Blue Cross. Her determination means that STARS can be there for the people in our province at their most critical moments, helping STARS save lives.

Together, STARS Rescue on the Prairie raised an incredible $417,650 in total to support STARS’ critical and often life-saving operations, essential for so many rural communities within our province.

Your Voice, Your Choice

United Way Day of Caring

The United Way Day of Caring is an opportunity for businesses to enable their employees to experience the rewards of volunteerism and to demonstrate the difference they can make in our community by working together. Saskatchewan Blue Cross has been the title sponsor of Day of Caring since 2023. Volunteer teams from many organizations donate their time, energy, and skills to community projects in the Saskatoon area.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross employees in Saskatoon and Regina also participate in this annual initiative and have had the opportunity to: help plant a community garden and planting flowers, weeding and yardwork, enhance outdoor playground areas, paint and refresh living spaces, bake and assist in preparation of meals, sort and coordinate programming materials, as well as light cleaning and tidying of facilities.
