Frequently Asked Questions: Group Benefits Plan
Will I be covered if I travel to a region affected by a travel advisory?
Your coverage is not impacted by the Government of Canada travel advisories. However, it is recommended that plan members check the Government of Canada website for travel advisories in place for their trip destination, and take the advice provided seriously.
Does my policy include an automatic trip extension if my travel home is delayed by the airline carrier?
No. Your travel coverage is only in effect until the last day of the trip, as defined in your member booklet.
I am unable to return home from a region affected by a travel advisory. Am I eligible to purchase Top-up insurance to extend my trip until I can return home?
Yes, you are eligible to purchase a Top-up policy if your current travel coverage is still active, and you have not exceeded the total number of days.
If I purchased Top-up coverage, how many days should I purchase?
When an active “avoid all non-essential travel” or “avoid all travel” Government of Canada travel advisory is issued, it may be difficult for Canadians to get home. We recommend purchasing for an extended period, knowing that if you return early, you can request a reimbursement for the unused portion of your trip. The Top-up coverage will provide you with coverage, regardless of the travel advisories in place. However, all other exclusions and limitations listed in the Top-up policy will apply.
