Retiring? Here’s how you can maintain coverage
If you or members of your staff are preparing for retirement and will be leaving employer-sponsored group benefits, it is important to plan for continued health coverage. Saskatchewan Blue Cross offers a convenient retiree conversion option that helps you stay protected as you transition into this new stage of life.
Individuals leaving a group benefits plan can convert their coverage to an individual retiree health plan within 90 days of their group benefits ending. This option helps ensure there is no disruption in coverage and supports your long-term health and financial well-being.
Flexible coverage designed for your retirement
The retiree health plan includes more than 36 coverage combinations. This allows you to tailor your protection to suit your needs, lifestyle and budget in retirement. Members can choose from three customizable plan levels: Basic, Classic and Enhanced. Each level offers different benefits and flexibility, making it easier to find the right fit.
All plans include Extended Health Benefits, VIP Travel Coverage and Prescription Drug Coverage. These features help you stay protected both at home and while travelling. Dental Coverage is also available as an optional add-on for those who want additional coverage.
Eligibility requirements
To enroll in the retiree plan, individuals must:
- Live in Saskatchewan with valid Saskatchewan Health coverage
- Be 50 years of age or older
- Be retiring or recently retired and have lost coverage through a group benefits plan
- Apply within 90 days of their group coverage ending
A simple way to continue coverage
Converting your group benefits to an individual retiree plan allows you to maintain valuable health protection without medical underwriting. It also gives you the flexibility to select a coverage level that aligns with your retirement priorities and lifestyle.
This straightforward transition helps ensure you can continue accessing the care and support you need as you move confidently into retirement.
