Saskatchewan Blue Cross Recognized as Top Employer and Trusted Brand

For the fifth year in a row, Saskatchewan Blue Cross has been named one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers in the annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. Blue Cross was also recently recognized as a Most Trusted Brand by the Reader’s Digest annual poll of Canadians.

“2020 was anything but normal, and to receive these honours amidst the pandemic landscape means that we made a positive impact through our dedicated efforts to put the health and wellbeing of our members, employees and our communities first,” says Shelley Vandenberg, President & CEO. “Our primary concern will always be our employees. When their needs are taken care of, they can focus on what they do best which is supporting our members, our communities and improving the health and wellness of Saskatchewan residents.”

Exceptional Employee Experiences – Despite the challenges isolation created this past year, Saskatchewan Blue Cross led the way with new employee initiatives backed by an expanded leadership team, and no layoffs. They made sure employees stayed connected as a community through virtual noon hour exercise classes, daily check-in meetings with team members and access to stronger mental health resources. Saskatchewan Blue Cross continues to value and support employee efforts to maintain a healthy work-life balance, offers a range of career development and growth opportunities – and most importantly – cultivates an environment where people work hard and have fun.

Essential Member Support – In support of their valued members, Saskatchewan Blue Cross offered critical premium relief support to both employers and personal plan members in 2020, in addition to actively seeking out ways to support their local member businesses at every opportunity through their purchasing decisions.

Critical Community Impact – A leader in social responsibility, Saskatchewan Blue Cross supports 200+ charities, contributing over $1M annually in funds, time and resources to causes that enhance the health and wellness of the Saskatchewan community. 2020 focused on supporting those most impacted by the pandemic, including donating 8,000 litres of sanitizer to first responders in partnership with LB Distillers and Stumbletown Distilling, arming 30,000 front line workers with mask ear guard straps with Saskatchewan Health Authority, providing essential PPE equipment to first responders and hospitals, providing pediatric and acute care units with iPads to help patients stay connected to their loved ones, and sponsoring Med Hack+ – an initiative leveraging technology and bright local minds to research the COVID-19 genome.

“2021 marks our 75th anniversary, and there’s a hum of positive energy travelling throughout our organization,” says Vandenberg. “We’re building a bright future together, and it’s a truly transformative time. We’re in the midst of a multi-year journey to reinvent key parts of our business through digitization, new product and service agility, and a suite of new tools to enable stronger relationships with our broker partners and our members. We’re evolving while staying true to what’s made us so special over the years and earned these prestigious accolades: we care deeply about delivering exemplary service, building trust and investing in the wellbeing of our communities.”
